ABOUT THE FORESTVIEW PLANETARIUM

The Forestview Planetarium at Forestview Middle School in Baxter, MN is once again open full time! Funding is made possible by Sourcewell through its Innovation Funding program. The Forestview Planetarium was approved for this funding during the summer of 2017! Our focus is on the elementary and middle school students of the Region 5 public school districts. We also have a community outreach program that includes "open to the public" shows.

The planetarium houses a 28 ft permanently mounted dome to see the stars, planets, moons, or anything one can imagine! The projection system is a Digistar 7 digital system that was installed in the fall of 2020. Two Sony laser projectors now do the work that one single projector used to do. The image on the dome is stunning!

Science standards are delivered in this very immersive environment creating an out of this world feel. Students of all ages sit back in 58 theater-style seats that were installed fall of 2016. A new Chromo Cove lighting system was installed late September of 2017. This allows special customized lighting of the dome. It also illuminates star charts or curriculum held by students while remaining in their seats.

Thanks to the generous funding of Sourcewell, the planetarium is better than ever and reaching more students each year!
